Objective Over 0.5 First Half Goals Strategy

  • A single goal during first half of a match from either team 
Trade/Market: 
  • Back bet is placed in “First Half Goals 0.5” market  
  • Check the First Half Goals shortlist here
Entry Criteria for Over 0.5 First Half Goal: 
  • Match selection based on the First Half Goals shortlisted selections 
  • Score is 0-0 
  • Price for the Back bet is “Min Odd (Back)” +10%. This can be setup pre-game, just remember to tick the “Keep” button and update. 
Exit Criteria: 
  • No trade out required. Trade is won as soon as the first goal is scored 
Insurance/Mitigation Actions: 
  • None for this strategy 

Over 0.5 First Half Goals

A simple back and forget strategy. Requires a single goal at any time during the first half, from either team any time after the trade is matched to secure a win.  

Pre-Game 

For this match, the price was ~£1.30 to back over 0.5 First Half Goals before the match started.As seen on the very left of the chart below [the chart below shows from pre-game up to ~20 minutes into the match].

Setting up the Trade

In this case, I waited for the match to go in play before placing my bet. After around 20 minutes, the price has reached £1.80. High enough for a decent return on investment and also still left 25 minutes plus injury time to find a goal.

For this bet:

  • if the 1st half ends without a goal, “Under 0.5 First Half Goals” then the net result is a loss of £5 (the stake). As denoted by the £5.00 in red text.
  • if the match ends with one (or more goals), “Over 0.5 First Half Goals” then the net result is a profit of £4.0 (£5 x £1.80 – £2 stake = £4.00). As denoted by the £4.00 in green text.

Winning the Trade

At goal was scored at ~38 minutes. This market is then closed as all possible outcomes have been determined and the profit and your initial stake is added to your Betfair account.
